Yahoo! Fantasy Icons - Custom Icon Design

Sci-Fi

Initial sketches

For projects like this, I always begin with my trusty sketchbook. It’s where every idea lands first, without judgment. Good, bad, awkward, unexpected. That early stage is about exploration, testing directions, and allowing space for imperfect solutions to surface. Most of those initial sketches never see the light of day, but they serve an important purpose. They warm up both the hand and the imagination.

From that exploratory phase, I refined the strongest concepts into 15 polished sketches. The client approved them without revisions, and we moved confidently into vector development.

Color Palette

With the base colors already established in the previous project, the focus shifted to adapting and refining the palette for a sci-fi setting before moving into vector development and final assembly.

Featuring Memorable Characters

I was excited to draw inspiration from some of my favorite animated worlds and pop culture classics, including Futurama, The Jetsons, and Star Wars. This project gave me the opportunity to channel those influences into a cohesive visual direction while maintaining the character and structure of the overall icon system.

Format requirements

Finally, with the icons ready to go, I created rasterized versions for tiny 24×24 px sizes, ensuring that everything looks good within the app.

Testimonials

“We teamed up with Agata to design new team logos for use across our suite of Yahoo Fantasy games. The logos feature fun and playful themes with a sports twist including animals, aliens, dogs, and more! Agata captured these themes perfectly to help give our users a unique way to express themselves within our product. Her talent and quick grasp of our vision made the process seamless. We were so pleased with the results that we came back to Agata for a second round of team icons! We highly recommend her for any creative design needs.”
