The Energy Bus By Jon Gordon

You know that saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well… it’s impossible to follow if you are a visual person. I’m totally guilty to say the least! The only books I don’t buy based on a cover are those that I’m specifically waiting for or that are strongly recommended by people I respect. Soooooo… I totally picked The Energy Bus based on its cover.

I mean c’mon, that yellow background with that sweet little bus is irresistible. Am I right or am I right 😉 After all, yellow is the color of sunlight which directly translates to energy.

Short and positive

It’s a quick read, I was able to listen to it in full while driving to another city and getting back home the same day. Would I listen to it, if I knew what it’s about? Probably not. I don’t say it isn’t good, it’s easy to listen, it’s funny and motivating, but I’m in a good place in my life right now and for me it was about things that work but also are pretty obvious.

The golden nugget

However, no time is wasted if you are able to take away at least a single thought. And sure enough I did find a golden nugget. I’ve learned something that I wasn’t fully aware of. Your team reflects your mood and attitude.

If you are sad, bitter and unmotivated your team will be exactly like that. When you are a leader, mom or dad and you want your team (or family, or friends) to be effective, happy and able to achieve great things together – YOU need to be happy, motivated and energetic.
