I started making icons because I sucked at drawing. It’s true. It’s super messed up considering in what profession I’m in.
The best part is, I’m not the only one, a lot of designers can’t draw. That little fact doesn’t stop them to be great designers, but, that’s another story. Back to me 😉 I’ve started drawing those tiny, completely not serious illustrations, cause I wanted to learn how to draw.
Back in a day I wanted to be a comic book artist. Well… at least I thought so. I just imagined that I will sleep late, wear funny clothes, drink lots of coffee and create crazy ass illustration. A jaw dropping illustrations, to be clear. But I never had the nerve to complete the drawing when I knew it sucked from the beginning.
I confused talent with patience. I thought I had any, but turns out I was not patient enough. Could not push through thousand messed up drawings. I wanted to skip through it and be a freaking rock star of paper and pencil.
My obvious conclusion was that I had no talent and I need to move on with my life and do something that will pay the bills eventually.
I would love to tell you that after 20 (or something) years later I’m now a successful comic book artist. That I sleep late (tho, it happens), drink lots of coffee (not anymore) and create crazy ass illustrations (not even close!). I do suck at drawing little less, mmm okay, a lot less… The point is, I’m happy with the work I do and every time I pick up a pencil I’m getting better.
You will always suck at things that you don’t do and you will always hate the things you don’t try. That, my friend, is a fact. Now, what you gonna do with it?

I have always wanted to design my own comics, be part of the art and story. I have always had a creative flare for those sort of things. I created my own characters too and have created designs, personalitys and even voices for them.

And what happened? Did you go throught with it? 🙂

Hello Agata! I love your hand-drawn icons! Dream big and get started, that is the most important part. Then see where it takes/took you… and maybe restart or love what you became. I wish you to be happy at your beloved personal spot in life.

Thank you!, I wish the same for you!

Nailed it ! I began figure drawing from scratch and I can see the progress day by day ! Hem.. Well I threw out my routine since 2 weeks ago because I prepare for a hypothetical web design job for a friend, but hey ! I’ll adapt to continue this !

Yay! Don’t stop!
