As we wind down another year, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the unexpected journey it turned out to be. If you’d told me in January what the next twelve months would hold, I’d have hardly believed it. This year brought its share of surprises—some that exceeded my expectations, and others that reminded me just how unpredictable life can be.
Despite not releasing the planned mood icons pack, the year wasn’t short on achievements. I landed a three-month contract with Yahoo Fantasy to create team logos, which was a thrilling opportunity.
I also managed to pursue some self-initiated personal projects just for fun, which I hadn’t done in years.
On a personal note, my partner and I bought our first house and embraced the challenge of renovating it together—a gratifying, if exhausting, endeavor. Tackling this project really highlighted how fortunate I am to have a partner who can turn even the most stressful and exhausting changes into an exciting adventure.
I also marked a full year and 3 months living without antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds, relying instead on the coping skills I’ve developed for my mental health. Regular visits to the gym and daily walks played a huge part in it. If you’re struggling, remember you’re not alone, and there are countless ways to find support.
Amidst these highs, I faced the painful goodbye to my beloved cat of 13 years, Tosia, whom I miss every day.
Her absence left a void, but it’s gradually filling with the love and relationships I’ve nurtured throughout my adult life. This year, I’ve learned to embrace life’s flow—letting go, receiving the world with an open mind, and seizing opportunities despite my fears.
The Mood Icons project turned out to be more overwhelming than expected, revealing the sheer volume and uncertainty of the venture. After years of health and mental health challenges that slowed my creative output, the fluctuating income from icon sales made it clear that prioritizing client work was necessary for my immediate survival.
Looking ahead, the rise of AI in creative fields adds another layer of uncertainty. But I’m not ready to give up. I decided to release the mood pack not just as icons but as a series of illustrations, allowing me to gauge demand and manage my workload better. This step-by-step approach might just be the sustainable path forward I need. First 4 Illustrations will be available soon here.
The future is as uncertain as ever, but I’m committed to maintaining my hope and curiosity. I’ll continue to push my creative boundaries while ensuring I take care of my well-being. That said, I’m confident that no matter what happens, it will certainly be interesting adventure.
As we close this chapter and look towards a new year, I wish for you the wonder and excitement of a five-year-old. Face challenges with faith in your abilities, cherish every joyous moment, and surround yourself with those who lift you higher. And don’t forget the basics: sleep well, stay hydrated, and keep moving.
Thank you for being a part of my journey, for your support, and for choosing my creations. Your support means the world to me and fuels my small business day in and day out.
Sending love and inspiration,
Agata
